Introduction
Widow
and Child in Need Project is an orphanage project found in Uganda (East
Africa) in Mbale District, Bungokho Sub – County, Bubirabi Parish, Mabanga
Village; where Aids killed almost all male and female people leaving behind
unplanned for and helpless Children.
The Project
was founded by Esther R. Katenya who is a well trained Social worker and a trained Stenographer Lornah Mukimba respectively, purposely to cater for the
parentless, homeless children by providing them Education, food, Medical
care, clothing and other basic needs.
The project
started on 8th February 2000 with 5 children of ages between 4
and 7 years. The number of children (Orphans) grew with time so we talked to
local leaders in that community and those around requesting for assistance
which they gave according to their abilities.

Currently,
the project is taking care of 15 widows and 66 children, 35 of which are
girls and 31 are boys who are at different levels of primary education in
different village schools, their needs have risen so high that we can no
longer manage to provide for them adequately.
Our main
interest is to see these orphans grow up into good citizens / human beings
and not street children or prostitutes.
We
constructed two temporary houses to serve as hostels for the children to
live in. (See picture below) we have tried to provide things
like beds, food, medical care, school materials, clothing and other relevant
basic needs. As they grow older, their needs increase.

We also
constructed a temporary administration office to
handle the correspondence within the project (see picture below). We were
doing every thing temporary because we did not have enough money to
construct / build permanently, we couldn’t wait to get enough money before
the start of the project because the situation of the beneficiaries was
really bad.

These
children while at this temporary hostel, they are being looked after by some
of these widows, who cook, wash, escorts some young ones to their long
distance schools, and cleans the environment / compound and extra.
However, on
the sad note, some of the windows are sick with HIV virus plus the
children whom the husband died and left her with. Their life is difficult as
you can see one of the widow in picture below with her One and half of age
all are sick. the mother is preparing porridge which they can take as
their meal throughout the day. Her body is full of wounds plus the child
which has no immediate treatment.
However,
as we talk now, we no longer stand for all the basic needs needed in the
project and we have thought to solicit for help from any well wisher
or organization who can be willing to help us continue with this noble
cause.
Therefore,
any assistance is greatly appreciated from any supporter or donor to this
project.
